I have decided to serialise my book Quote Therapy here as I believe it has many valuable lessons to teach. We can learn a lot from quotes and putting their wisdom into practice in daily life can enrich it and help us on our healing journey. I will be adding one chapter a week. I hope you enjoy it.
Once upon a time in a small, bustling town, there lived a young girl named Amelie. Amelie was born with a rare condition that left her blind and deaf. Despite the challenges she faced, Amelie had an incredible spirit that radiated warmth and love.
One day, while strolling through the park with her faithful guide dog Leo, Amelie overheard two friends discussing the meaning of true happiness. Curiosity sparked within her heart as she listened to their conversation.
“I believe that true happiness lies in feeling rather than seeing,” said one friend.
The other friend seemed puzzled. “How can you feel something without seeing it? Isn’t it better to see the beauty of this world?”
Amelie’s ears perked up at this debate because she had often pondered on this very question herself. Determined to find answers, she decided to embark on a journey of self-discovery.
As days turned into weeks and weeks into months, Amelie met various people who shared their wisdom about finding happiness beyond what meets the eye. She learned four practical suggestions that resonated deeply within her soul:
Practice Gratitude: One wise woman named Mme. Dupont explained how gratitude could help one feel things with the heart even when they couldn’t be seen or touched directly. By focusing on all the blessings already present in our lives - such as family and friendships - we can cultivate an attitude of appreciation that brings immense joy and contentment.
Embrace Empathy: A kind-hearted man named M.Bernard taught Amelie how empathy allows us to connect deeply with others by truly understanding their feelings and experiences without judgment or bias. By acknowledging and sharing emotions, we create meaningful connections built on compassion and love.
Cultivate Inner Peace: In a quiet monastery tucked away amidst lush green hills, Frere Michel taught Amelie about finding peace within oneself despite external circumstances or limitations imposed by sight or touch alone. He emphasised practices like meditation and mindfulness, which help to quiet the mind and allow us to tap into the peace that resides within our hearts.
Spread Love and Kindness: On the final leg of the journey, Amelie encountered a group of children playing in a park. Their laughter and kindness touched her deeply. She realised that by spreading love and kindness to others, we create an environment where the best and most beautiful things can be felt with our hearts. Acts of kindness have a ripple effect, touching not only those we help but also ourselves in profound ways.
As Amelie returned home with her newfound wisdom, she understood why Helen Keller’s quote was so important for healing and happiness. It reminded us all that true joy lies in embracing life’s intangible treasures – love, gratitude, empathy–rather than solely relying on what can be seen or touched.
From that day forward, Amelie became an inspiration to all who crossed her path. Through her warmth and kind-heartedness, she taught others how to feel with their hearts instead of merely using their eyes or hands.
And so it is said that even though Amelie couldn’t see or touch the beauty around her as others could, she found a way to experience it more deeply than anyone ever could.
